Rizwan, Shakeel hit ton as Pakistan declare at 448-6

DHAKA, Aug 22, 2024 (BSS) - Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel hit centuries as Pakistan declared its first innings at 448-6, shortly after tea session on Day 2 of the two-match series opening Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi today.

Rizwan hit career best 171 with 11 fours and three sixes and remained unbeaten when captain Shan Masood decided to declare the innings. Saud Shakeel made 141 off 261, with the help of nine boundaries.

Shakeel rescued Pakistan from a dire strait after they were reduced to 16-3. He added a 98-run with Saim Ayub, who scored 56, for the fourth wicket to bail the side out of danger and then left Bangladesh at bay, sharing a mammoth 240-run partnership with Rizwan for the fifth wicket.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz removed Shakeel but Rizwan further treated Bangladesh bowlers in disdain to take the side past 400.

Shakib Al Hasan also bagged a wicket when he dismissed Agha Salman for 19 but Shaheen Shah Afridi played in one-day style to hit 24-ball 29 not out.

Pace bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam, who both took two wickets, were excellent on rain-hit Day 1 but both of them failed to add any wicket to their tally on Day 2. Shakib and Miraz scalped one wicket apiece.
