Record beckons Bangladesh cricketers

DHAKA, Sept 15, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh cricketers can reach their respective
milestones when their side will take on India for two-match Test series.

The Tigers had already reached Chennai, the venue of the first Test,
beginning from September 19. The second and final Test will be held at Kanpur
from September 27.

Bangladesh are brimming with confidence to beat India for the first time in
Test cricket after a historic success against Pakistan.

India and South Africa are now the two teams whom Bangladesh are yet to beat
in Test format. Bangladesh lost 11 out 13 Test matches they played against
India while the rest of the two Tests were drawn, largely due to rain.
Otherwise Bangladesh could have lost those two matches also.

The series is an opportunity for them to break the winning-jinx against
India. Bangladesh have already got victory against nine Test nations and if
they can beat India, the number will touch double figure.

Bangladesh's most dependable batter Mushfiqur Rahim is just nine runs shy of
becoming the highest scorer for the side across three formats.

Currently Tamim Iqbal, who has been away from cricket since the last year,
holds the record, scoring 15,192 runs. Mushfiqur who has been in fine form
now has 15,184 runs under his belt. It's more or less sure that he will
overtake Tamim in this series, given his purple patch in Test cricket.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam can become the only second bowler from
Bangladesh to reach the milestone of 200 wickets in Test format after Shakib
Al Hasan. He needs just five wickets. He could have achieved the feat in
Pakistan but due to the team combination, the management left him out.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was adjudged the best player in Bangladesh vs
Pakistan series is also on the verge of creating a record. He can become the
fourth Bangladeshi bowler to take 300 wickets in all three formats after
Shakib Al Hasan who has 708 wickets, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (389) and
Mustafizur Rahman (323). To achieve the feat, Miraz just needs seven wickets.
