DHAKA, Sept 17, 2024 (BSS)—Bangladesh Women’s A team’s aspiration to whitewash Sri Lanka A team was dented after their 19-run defeat in the fourth T20 game today at Thurstan College Ground in Colombo.
The Women’s national team which is playing the series under the guise of A team as part of their preparation for the Women’s T20 World Cup, won the first three matches in a row to confirm the series earlier.
Given the gulf of difference between the two teams in strength, Bangladesh were favourite to sweep the series but Sri Lankan girls put up an inspiring performance to shatter the visiting team’s hopes.
Put into bat first, the Lankan Women’s piled up 124-5 in 20 overs with Sandeepani making the team-best 46 not out. Vaatshala scored 29 while Malsha added 21.
Fahima Khatun and Marufa Akhter took two wickets apiece for Bangladesh while Jahanara Alam picked up one wicket.
In reply, Bangladesh put a miserable batting show to be bowled out for 105 in 19.3 overs. Shamima Akhter made 38 and Shorna Akter contributed 28. Other batters failed to contribute much, hastening the team’s defeat against an inexperienced side.
The fifth and final T20 game will be held on Thursday at Colts Cricket Ground in Colombo.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the two-match one-day series by 1-0 after the first game was washed out due to rain.
