Tigers reach 26-3 at lunch after India bowled out for 376

DHAKA, Sept 20, 2024 (BSS)- India bowlers put Bangladesh in a troublesome

situation, reducing them to 26-3 at lunch on day two of the first cricket
Test against India at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai today.

Pacer Akash Deep was the wrecker-in-chief, taking 2-5 in his two overs to
push Bangladesh on back foot.

India were earlier bowled out for 376, adding just 37 runs to their overnight
total of 339-6.

Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud claimed 5-83 to play the vital role in restricting
India to a moderate total.

But another fast bowler Taskin Ahmed who snapped up 3-55, hastened India's
downfall on the second day morning session.

As India looked set for 400 plus total and possibly thinking about 500 runs
on the board, Taskin came up with a gem of pace bowling.

Taskin who didn't get any wicket on day one, started the party with the
wicket of Ravindra Jadeja who failed to add any score to his overnight 86.

He thereafter removed Akash Deep for 17 before taking the prized scalp of
Ravichandran Ashwin who finally was out on 113.

Hasan Mahmud who finished with four wickets on day one, finally completed his
second straight five-for in Test cricket, dismissing Jasprit Bumrah for 7.
Just earlier in the last Test innings against Pakistan, he had figures of 5-
43.

Bumrah, however, broke through in the first over of Bangladesh innings,
rattling the stump of opener Shadman Islam for 2.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto played with positive intent but Akash Deep
swung the ball in both ways to trouble the batters.

He got the reward for his fine swing bowling display by getting rid of Zakir
Hasan (3) and Mominul Haque for naught. Both of the batters were clean
bowled, failing to deal with the swing and pace properly.
