DHAKA, Oct 19, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh skipper Sabina Khatun today said they are expecting a tough challenge in their opening match against Pakistan in the SAFF Women’s Championship.
Bangladesh will take on Pakistan in the first match of the SAFF Women’s Championship scheduled to be held tomorrow (Sunday) at the Dashath Rangasal Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Talking to media during the team’s practice session at ST.XAVIERS ground today (Saturday), the Bangladesh skipper said she is considering Pakistan as a strong opponent compared to the last SAFF tournament.
“Pakistan team are far better compared to the last SAFF tournament and we saw they fought neck to neck against India,” she said in a video message available here.
Sabina said, “I think the match will not going to be an easy one and it will be a big challenge for us…If we can beat Pakistan, we will go to semi final. So, we will take to the field focusing on this objective.”
She said that they would miss the service of their two important players- Swapna and Akhi- although their absence won’t impact the team.
In this connection, the captain said it is also a good opportunity for the newcomers to prove themselves in the field.
Replying to a query, Sabina said our first target is to score goal in the match and my message to my teammates not to miss any opportunity during the play.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh team held an hour intensive training today ahead of their first match.
Following the training, the players went through an ice bath recovery session so that the players can remain fit for their first game.
