DHAKA, Oct 20, 2024 (BSS) - Shamsunnahar Jr. scored a timely goal in the dying moment as Bangladesh came from behind forced Pakistan to play a 1-1 goal draw in their opening group A match of the SAFF Women's Championship held at Dasharath Rangasal Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal on Sunday.
In the proceeding, Zahmena Samin Malik scored for Pakistan in the first half while Shamsunnahar Jr. netted for Bangladesh in the dying moment of the match.
The day's draw means, both Bangladesh and Pakistan have collected one point but Bangladesh have one more match in hand and they will face mighty India in their last group match on Wednesday (Oct 23). Bangladesh will need only a draw against India to confirm their spot in the semi-final.
India already ensured their place in the last four after beating Pakistan by 5-2 goals in their tournament opening match.
On the other hand, all is not yet over for Pakistan and they will have to look at the result of Bangladesh India match. If Bangladesh lose to India, then there will be a calculation to decide which team will go to the semi-final.
Pakistan took the lead in the 32nd minute. After receiving a ball from midfield, Pakistani forward Zahmena Samin Malik ran down along with two Bangladesh defenders and sent the ball home with a right-footer tap giving no chance to Bangladesh goalkeeper.
After the breather, Bangladesh fought back in the match courtesy of Shamsunnahar Jr. who leveled the margin for Bangladesh in the 90+1st minute from goal-mouth melee.
