RANGPUR, Oct 22, 2024 (BSS) - The two-day 51st Sub-regional School, Madrasa and Vocational Education Summer Sports and Swimming Competitions- 2024 kicked off at Rangpur Zila School ground in the city today.
The Rangpur Regional School, Madrasa and Vocational Education Sports Association with assistance of the National School and Madrasa Sports Association and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education are organizing the sports competitions.
Acting Divisional Commissioner Md. Azmal Hossain hoisted the national flag and formally inaugurated the group-wise games competitions in the morning at the same venue as the chief guest.
Rangpur Regional Deputy Director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Md. Shafiqul Islam presided over the inaugural function.
Headmaster of Rangpur Zila School Abul Kalam Azad and Headmistress of Rangpur Government Girls' High School Ferdousi Ashrafi were present.
All eight district education officers from Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha districts under Rangpur division were present, among others.
The students of different schools in Rangpur city exhibited colorful physical displays in the inaugural ceremony.
The boys and girls teams of schools, madrasas and vocational schools are taking part in the Swimming, Football, Hand Ball, Kabadi and other sports competitions from all eight districts under the division.
The chief guest said a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. There is no alternative to regular exercise and sports for the health of the body.
"Apart from physical and mental development, sports also develop quick decision making, teamwork mentality and leadership skills. That is why students should focus on sports as well as studies," he said.
He hoped that such an event would inculcate a healthy competitive spirit.
The district level winners of the 51st Sub-regional School, Madrasa and Vocational Education Summer Sports and Swimming Competitions- 2024 of Rangpur division are participating in the competition.
