DHAKA, Oct 31, 2024 (BSS) - Shakib Al Hasan will not be the part of Bangladesh squad for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to lack of practice, said Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed.
The series against Afghanistan begins on November 6, in the UAE, an adopted venue of the Afghans..
"He (Shakib) is highly likely to miss the series against Afghanistan due to lack of practice. He has been out of the cricket for some time and even didn’t do any practice," Faruque told reporters in Chattogram today.
“He needs some time to get back his shape for cricket…so it’s the reason that he may miss the series.
Just a day ago, Faruque had said that the ace all-rounder is available for the Afghanistan series.
The BCB boss claimed that the decision not to play the Afghanistan series was Shakib's call.
“But if he is fit enough, he can feature in the all-format West Indies tour,” Faruque said.
The West Indies tour will start on November 22.
Bangladesh is scheduled to depart for the UAE on November 3 in two separate groups. The squad for the series is yet to be announced.
While the first match is on November 6, the next two matches will be held on November 9 and 11.
