Cash prize announced for SAFF winning women’s football team

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2024 (BSS)-Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain today (Thursday) announced cash prize of Taka one crore on behalf of his ministry for the SAFF winning Bangladesh women’s football team.

“We especially thanked the women’s team on behalf of the nation as well as the interim government ….. we again thank to the team because they have brought the victory against Nepal playing against their home crowds,” the Sports adviser said to the pressmen at the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Bhaban.

Asif informed that Chief Adviser would accord a reception to the eve football team in his official residence Jamuna on Saturday (Nov 2).   

He said: “We have already learnt that there is discrimination regarding the facility between Bangladesh women’s football team and women’s cricket team and we are discussing with this issue with BFF and hoped to resolve it soon.”    

Asif also hoped that the way the girls are snatching the international achievements, they would able to achieve bigger trophy and win big tournament in the future event.

The Sports Adviser also announced their all out cooperation on behalf of the ministry for the women’s football team.

Replying to a question the Sports Adviser said players always want proper facility to us and we also have the intention to implement their demand through the federation and ministry.

He informed that the construction work of sports institution currently undergoing in order to ensure the advance level training for the players.

Asif said they are working to increase the facility for the players and thinking to setup a big sports village in the country to accommodate all the federations.      

Earlier, Bangladesh team met with the Sports Adviser at the BFF Bhaban. The Sports Adviser handed over a dummy cheque of Taka one crore to SAFF winning Bangladesh team.

Earlier, Bangladesh eve football team returned home today afternoon winning the 2024 edition of SAFF Women’s Championship.

The team, led by Sabina Khatun, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 2.15 pm, greeted with fanfare and a warm welcome by officials, fans, and BFF officials.

The Bangladesh eve football team defeated Nepal 2-1 in the exciting final of the SAFF tournament on Wednesday last evening in Kathmandu and defended the title they won for the first time in 2022.
