Ashraful six-fer, Ebadot's comeback highlights Day 4 of NCL

DHAKA, Nov 11, 2024 (BSS)-Left-arm spinner Ashraful Hasan claimed a six-fer 
to help Chattogram secure their first victory in the ongoing National Cricket 
League (NCL), crushing Barishal by eight wickets.

In the same match, Shahadat Hossain Dipu hit a century to prove his worth 
further.

Elsewhere the day also saw a comeback of pacer Ebadot Hossain, who bowled 
decently after a long hiatus from the cricket following a knee operation. 
 
Chattogram vs Barishal 

Ashraful spun web round Barishal to finish the game inside three days at 
Cox's Bazar Stadium as Barishal were bowled out for 77 runs in the second 
innings, setting just 83 runs for Chattogram's victory. Chattogram reached 
the target in just 11.3 overs, losing two wickets to register an eight-wicket 
victory.

Ashraful took 4-68 in the first innings and having grabbed six in the second 
innings, he claimed his first 10-fer in a first class match. 

Barishal took a lead in the first innings when Chattogram were able to add 
111 runs after resuming the Day 3 at 202-3.

Despite a stubborn century of captain Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Chattogram were 
bowled out for 313, conceding 5 runs lead as Barishal put up 318 all out in 
the first innings.

Dipu finally made 116 off 249, hitting 10 fours. His overnight partner Yasir 
Ali, however, fell for nervous 99 after hitting seven fours and four sixes in 
149 balls. 

Bairshal skipper Tanvir Islam who took 4-123 sparked a collapse as Chattogram 
lost last six wickets for 40 runs.

But that mattered little when Ashraful came up with gem of spin bowling to 
leave Barishal in tatters.

He was ably supported by offspinner Nayeem Hasan who snared 3-15. Only two 
batters could reach double digits for Barishal with Fazle Rabbi making 
highest 33 and opener Iftikhar Hossain Ifti scoring 12.

Opener Parvez Hossain Emon slammed 30 ball-46 not out with one four and five 
sixes to hasten Chattogram's victory. Nayeem Hasan was not out on 30. 
 
Sylhet vs Khulna

Fast bowler Ebadot Hossain made a decent comeback to the competitive cricket 
on a day when his side Sylhet Division took command over Khulna at Cox's 
Bazar Academy Ground. 

All eyes on Ebadot when he resumed competitive cricket after a knee surgery 
that kept him out of the cricket field for one and half years.

He bowled 15 overs and took one wicket for 30 runs, which was not a bad 
outing for a man, playing cricket after a long hiatus.

Sylhet eventually dismissed Khulna for 273 runs in the first innings to take 
223 runs lead.

Sylhet earlier declared their first innings at 496-7, thanks to Amite Hasan's 
213 and Asadullah Galib's 115. Pinak Ghosh fell for 99.

The bails were drawn for Day 3 after Khulna's innings came to an end.

Pacer Syed Khaled Ahmed and left-arm spinner Nabil Samad snapped up three 
wickets apiece for Sylhet to derail Khulna innings. Nayeem Ahmed returned 
figures of 2-59.

Opener Anamul Haque Bijoy top-scored for Khulna with 131 ball-88, smashing 
seven fours and five sixes. Afif Hossain made 53 while Mohammad Mithun 
contributed 47 but none of them could prolong their innings which hurt Khulna 
eventually.
 
Dhaka Metro vs Dhaka

Aminul Islam Bilob hit 82 as Dhaka Metro recovered from early collapse to 
take a 175-run lead against Dhaka Division at Sylhet Academy Ground. 

At stumps on Day 3, Metro reached 186-6 after a collapse that saw them being 
reduced to 83-5. 

Biplob then shared 101-run for the sixth wicket stand with Naim Sheikh who 
scored 48, to help the side steady the innings. 

Dhaka Division brought them back into the contest against, having claimed the 
wicket of Biplob at the fag end of the day.

Gazi Tahjibul Islam was batting on 31 with Abu Haider Rony on 2.

Earlier, resuming the day at 254-6, Dhaka Division were bowled out for 315 
with Shuvagata Hom making highest 83.

That enabled Dhaka to take just 11-run first innings lead as Metro were 
bowled out for 304.
 
Rangpur vs Rajshahi

Rangpur Division closed in on their second victory in the ongoing NCL at 
Rajshahi stadium today.

At stumps of Day 3, Rajshahi were reduced to 62-6 while chasing 263 runs for 
a victory in the fourth round game 

Rajshahi still need 201 with the rest of the four wickets to clinch an 
unlikely victory. 

Ariful Haque who scored a century in Rangpur's first innings, bagged three 
wickets for 10 runs to rip through Rajshahi.

Resuming the day at 83-4, Rangpur were dismissed for 262. Skipper Akbar Ali 
led the side to a comfortable position, hitting 77 off 107 with dozen of 
boundaries. Tanbir Hayder made 40.

Akbar and Tanbir shared 77-run for the sixth wicket after Rangpur were 
reduced to precarious 135-5.

Ariful Haque, the centurion of the first innings, scored 17.

Earlier, both of the sides put up identical 189 before being all out in their 
first innings.
