Rajshahi batter Farhad retires from first class cricket

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2024 (BSS)-Farhad Hossain, a domestic stalwart has retired from the first class cricket today. 

The 37-year-old was one of the most prolific batters in the domestic circuit but was never called up in the national team.

He played 161 first class matches for Rajshahi and scored 9065 runs, averaging 35.97. He hit 18 centuries and 46 half-centuries. 

Farhad who made his debut in 2005, played his last first class match against Rangpur Division in the ongoing National Cricket League in Rajshahi. 

His team however tasted 101-run defeat in what was his last first class match. He scored 26 and 9 in two innings of the match. 

He scored 3304 runs in 135 List A matches, averaging 28.23. He hit 20 fifties but could never hit a century. In 35 T20 matches, he scored 376.

He was also a handy off spinner, scalping 165 wickets in first class cricket.

At the end of the match today, Farhad was presented with a Rajshahi Division shirt signed by all the players and also received a commemorative crest from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) which was handed over to him by former national team opener and member of BCB National Selection Panel Hannan Sarker. 

Former Bangladesh and Rajshahi Division captain Khaled Mashud and match referee and former national player Ehsanul Hoque were present during the felicitation.
