DHAKA, Nov 12, 2024 (BSS)- After the completion of the National Cricket
League's (NCL) fourth round, Sylhet went on top of the point table despite a
draw against Khulna.
Mohammad Mithun hit a fine century to help Khulna salvage a draw after being
enforced a follow-on.
The match between Dhaka Division and Dhaka Metro also ended in a draw while
Rangpur registered 101-run victory against Rajshahi.
Earlier, Chattogram secured an eight-wicket victory against Barishal inside
three days.
Sylhet vs Khulna
Mohammad Mithun struck a superb century as Khulna salvaged a draw against
Sylhet at Cox's Bazar Academy ground.
Mithun smashed an unbeaten 102 off 108 with seven fours and as many sixes to
help Khulna end Day 4, final day of the game, at 296-3 after being enforced a
follow-on.
Sylhet declared their first innings at 496-7 after 213 from Amite Hasan and
115 from Asadullah Galib.
Khulna were bowled out for 273 runs, trailing by 223 runs to Sylhet in their
first innings.
In a bid to force a result, Sylhet enforced a follow-on but Khulna rallied
around Mitun to deny them a victory.
Three other batters reached half-century for Khulna with Imrul Kayes making
71 and opener Anamul Haque Bijoy scoring 54. Captain Nurul Hasan Sohan was
not out on 50.
Despite the draw, Sylhet are on the top of the table with six points from
four matches. Khulna are in the third spot with five points from same number
of matches.
Rangpur vs Rajshahi
Ariful Haque put a stellar allround performance to guide Rangpur to a 101-run
victory against Rajshahi Division at Rajshahi Stadium.
Ariful, who hit a century in Rangpur's first innings, claimed 3-16 as
Rajshahi were bowled out for 161, chasing the victory target of 263.
The victory put Rangpur to the second position with five points from four
matches, just behind Sylhet's six points.
The Rajshahi defeat was on the cards when they were reduced to 61-6 on Day 3
game.
They were able to add just 100 runs to their overnight total on Day 4 before
being all out.
No.7 batter Golam Kibria, who made first class debut with this match, delayed
the inevitable with 65 ball-56, an innings laced with 10 fours and one six.
Captain Sunzamul Islam was the other notable scorer with 23.
Robiul Haque, Abdul Gaffar Saqlain and Abu Halim picked up two wickets apiece
to complement Ariful's three-wicket haul.
Earlier, Ariful struck 103 in Rangpur's 189 all out in the first innings.
Rajshahi failed to take a lead as they were also dismissed for 189.
Rangpur then put up 262 in their second innings before being all out to set
up a 263-run target for Rajshahi to win the game.
After this defeat, Rajshahi are at sixth spot with three points from four
matches.
Dhaka Division vs Dhaka Metro
Dhaka Division batters put a stubborn batting show to deny Dhaka Metro a
victory at Sylhet Academy Ground.
Resuming the final day at 186-6 and 175 runs ahead, Metro were bowled out for
267 and set Dhaka a 257-run for victory.
Dhaka lost wicket at regular intervals to stand on the brink of a defeat but
somehow held the nerve to end the day at 148-8.
Opener Ashiqur Rahman Shibli was the top-scorer with 34 while Taibur Rahman
made 30.
Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan raised the prospect of Metro's victory with 4-
38 while Abu Haider Rony snapped up 3-45.
Put into bat first, Metro earlier were wrapped up for 304 in their first
innings and conceded 11 runs lead, when Dhaka ended with 315 all out in its
first innings.
