DHAKA, Nov 22, 2024 (BSS)-Independent Television's Mazharul Islam Mithun has 
been named sports man of the year in the Walton-DHAKA Reporters Unity (DRU) 
Sports Festival 2024 while Sajida Islam Parul of Daily Samkal became sports 
woman of the year. 

Both of them got seven points and were elected sports man of the year and 
sports woman of the year respectively.

The prize distribution ceremony of the DRU sports Festival, organized by DRU, 
was held at DRU Nasrul Hamid Auditorium today (Friday) with Bangladesh 
Football Federation vice president Md Naser Shahriar Zahedi was the chief 
guest in the occasion and handed over the prizes.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC's senior executive director FM Iqbal Bin Anwar 
and its additional executive director Rabiul Islam Milton were present as the 
special guests.

DRU former president Morsalin Nomani, vice president Shafiqul Islam Shamim, general secretary Mohi Uddin, joint secretary Md Mizanur Rahman and sports secretary Mahbubur Rahman were, among others, also present in the prize distribution ceremony with DRU president Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo in the chair.

In this month-long event, male members participated in ten events while 
female members took part in five events. 

Crest and Walton's home appliances were distributed to the first, second and 
third place winners in men's chess, shooting, archery, swimming, athletics 
200m, shot put, call bridge, auction bridge, rummy and carom events.

On the other hand, the first, second and third place winners in women's 
shooting, ludo, swimming, athletics 100m and carom received home appliances 
crest.

In addition, sportsmen of the year and sportswoman of the year were awarded a 
cash prize of Taka five thousand each.
