DHAKA, Nov 24, 2024 (BSS)—Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed claimed 2-19 to reduce West Indies to 50-2 at lunch on Day 1 of the two-match series opening Test at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua today.
Bangladesh put West Indies into bat first after winning the toss but the hosts made a watchful start to defy the bowlers in the first hour in bowling favourable condition.
Opener Mikyle Louis led the charge to keep the Bangladesh fast bowlers in check even though his fellow opener Kraigg Brathwaite, also the captain of the side struggled to get off the mark.
Coming as first change bowler, Taskin Ahmed broke the deadlock, trapping Brathwaite leg-before for 4. In his next over, he had Keacy Carty caught by Taijul Islam for duck to leave West Indies 25-2.
Louise had found a support in Kavem Hodge as the duo saw off the session without further trouble.
At the first interval of the day, Louis was batting on 36 with Hodge on 10.
Bangladesh fielded a relatively inexperienced side with veteran Mushfiqur Rahim and regular skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto being ruled out of the Test series.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is leading the side in what is his 50th Test.
