DHAKA, Nov 24, 2024 (BSS)—Justin Greaves hit his first fifty in the Test cricket as West Indies reached 336-7 at lunch on Day 2 of the first cricket match against Bangladesh at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua today.
Bangladesh got off to a magnificent start to the day, thanks to fast bowler Hasan Mahmud who took two wickets in his first two overs, leaving the hosts at 261-7 after they resumed the day at 250-5.
Those two early dismissals gave Bangladesh a ray of hope to bundle West Indies out below 300 in the first innings but Greaves resisted impeccably, aided by Kemar Roach.
At the first interval of the day, Greaves was batting on 63 with Roach who had already played 74 balls, on 19.
Mahmud struck in just fifth ball of the day by trapping Joshua Da Silva for 14 and then followed it with the wicket of Alzarri Joseph for 4 in the next over.
But to their dismay, Greaves soaked up the pressure to help the side take the stranglehold again.
Greaves raised his maiden fifty off 88 balls by clipping Mahmud through backward square leg for two and denied to be satisfied.
He demonstrated monk-like patience further, knowing that the job is yet not done.
Roach, a lower order batter, gave him the ample support by playing with utmost confidence.
