DHAKA, Nov 26, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh Women's cricket team is determined to gain early momentum as they take on Ireland in three-match series opening game tomorrow (Wednesday) at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
A momentum is important for Bangladesh to fulfil their aspiration to make a direct entry to the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in India next year.
To do that, they need to play their remaining six matches in the ICC ODI Super League. These matches against Ireland are the part of the Super League and hence it is imperative for Bangladesh to set the tone by winning the first match.
Bangladesh will play the next three ODIs against West Indies, which are far tougher opposition than Ireland.
"Ireland is ranked below us and so we want to dominate them. If we can't dominate them, then how can we compete against the stronger outfits," Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty said during the pre-match conference today.
"We can't take any opposition lightly. But since we are playing at home, we hope we'll get an advantage."
But the recent form of Bangladesh Women's team is not encouraging one. They had played just one ODI series this year at home against Australia in March and were thrashed in all three matches.
Bangladesh most of the time played T20 International this year and they had little success in this format too.
But according to Joty, they have performed well against all opponents except Australia.
"If you look at recent series, except against Australia, we've performed well. Hope to play well against Ireland too because we know that securing these six points is imperative for us," he added.
