DHAKA, Nov 27, 2024 (BSS) - Imamur Rahman, a passionate ultra distance runner from Bangladesh, made a significant mark on the international athletics scene during the TCS Amsterdam Marathon 2024 held recently.
More than 22,500 runners from over 80 countries took part in this prestigious event. Imamur's performance and cultural representation stood out, earning him widespread recognition.
The marathon, known for attracting some of the world's elite runners, began in the early hours amid chilly conditions. Despite the bitter cold, Imamur displayed incredible endurance.
Completing the race while marveling at the picturesque Dutch capital, his achievement was not just a personal victory but also a moment to celebrate and promote his cultural heritage on the global stage.
After crossing the finish line, Imamur celebrated his achievement by wearing a 'lungi', a traditional garment of Bangladesh and proudly displaying the Bangladesh flag. This symbolic gesture was aimed at sharing the richness of Bangladeshi culture with the international community.
Imamur explained, "TCS Amsterdam Marathon is a prestigious competition. It's an honour to represent my country and hoist the Bangladesh flag on foreign soil. I wanted to showcase our culture, and by wearing the lungi and taking photos with the flag and medal. I hope to inspire others to take pride in their heritage."
Imamur's participation in the marathon is part of his growing international running portfolio. This year alone, he has completed several major races, including the Dhaka Marathon, the Phuket 100KM Ultra Marathon, the Udonpit Run and the Pattaya Marathon.
Last year, he made waves by finishing the Vietnam Ultra Trail Marathon and EDP Lisbon Marathon that is a part of the super half series, establishing himself as a force to reckon with in ultra distance and trail running circuits.
Looking ahead, Imamur is determined to continue representing Bangladesh on the global stage. He has already set his sights on more international marathons, ultra marathons, and ultra trail marathon events, aiming to bring even more attention to his home country's presence in the world of long-distance running.
