Fiery Nahid Rana scythes down WI to help Tigers hit back

DHAKA, Dec 02, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh roared back in style as fast bowler Nahid Rana tore apart West Indies in a stunning bowling spell to leave hosts reeling to 135-8 at lunch on Day 3 of the second and final cricket Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica today.

Rana who clocked at 150 kph at regular basis, much to the dismay of the West Indies batters, ended the session with 4-57.

His sensational effort left the hosts jaded and out-of-sort, forcing them to loss seven wickets for just 65 runs in the morning session after resuming the day at 70-1.
West Indies are still trailing by 29 runs and a lead in the first innings looked improbable.

While Nahid Rana was fast and furious, troubling the batters with extreme pace, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, the other two pacers complemented him with accurate bowling.

Hasan had figures of 2-19, going into the lunch while Taskin finished with 1-20.

The trio’s sensational effort put a shed on the poor batting show that saw Bangladesh being bowled out for 164 in the first innings.

With captain Kraigg Brathwaite in the crease, West Indies looked set for a lead but Rana unsettled him with raw pace which rose awkwardly that the captain only could fend towards gully.

Brathwaite added just 10 runs to his overnight total to be out  on 39.
Another overnight batter Keacy Carty showed much composure as Rana kept running riot on West Indies.

Kevam Hodge poked a short pitched delivery of Rana as Liton took a stunning one-hand catch to add more misery on West Indies.

Taskin Ahmed joined the party to remove Alick Athanaze by rattling his stump while left-arm spinner Taijul Islam got the better of Justin Greaves who hit a century in the previous Test.

Hasan Mahmud trapped Joshua Da Silva leg-before and then ended Carty’s resistance, after he got a thin inside edge. Carty so far made team-best 40 off 115 with just one boundary.

Rana fittingly ended the session, taking the wicket of Alzzari Joseph as Bangladesh sniffed a lead that was not on the cards.

Brathwaite, Mikyle Luois and Keacy Carty were the only three batters so far to reach double digits.
Kemar Roach and Shamar Joseph were batting on 6 and 5 runs respectively when the lunch was taken.
