DHAKA, Dec 3, 2024 (BSS) - Barishal Division crushed Dhaka Division by 122 runs to end a win-drought in the 26th National Cricket League (NCL) at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra today.
The victory eventually came in the final round of the league to give them a winning-end. They lost two matches, drew four and won just one in seven matches but still finished at bottom table with 12 points.
Resuming the final day at 207-5, Barishal were able to add just 36 runs with the rest of the five wickets to be all out for 241. That finally helped them set a 221-run target for Dhaka to win the game.
But Ruyel Mea ripped through Dhaka with 6-28 and wrapped up them for just 98 runs in 38.2 overs.
Rony Talukdar who scored 112 in the first innings, was the top-scorer for the side in the second innings too with 37 runs. Ariful Islam made 21 while Taibur Rahman who was the only other batter apart from Rony and Ariful to reach double digits, added 17.
Mojammel Hasan Shakib took 2-21 to play a second fiddle to Ruyel Mea.
Put into bat first, Barishal were bowled out for 289 in its first innings but Dhaka declared at 310-9 after taking 21-run lead. At the end, the lead mattered little.
After this defeat, which was their first defeat, Dhaka finished the league as third placed team with 25 points. They won two matches, drew five and lost one.
