DHAKA, Dec 3, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana said he just focused on bowling in disciplined way that fetched him success in the second and final Test against West Indies.
The lanky fast bowler registered his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket by claiming 5-61 in the first innings of West Indies, a bowling figure that helped Bangladesh take the strangle of the match despite being all out for 164.
Thanks to Rana, Bangladesh took 18 runs lead by wrapping up West Indies for just 146 at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Day 3. Bangladesh thereafter reached 193-5 to extend the lead to 211 at stumps.
"Alhamdulillah (for my maiden five-wicket haul). I did not try too many things," Rana said after the day's play.
"I just focused on to bowl without giving much room to the batters. I just kept it simple and still trying to learn how to bowl in different situations," he said.
He said maintaining the process is key to success in this type of pitch.
"I feel if you maintain the line and length and bowl wicket-to-wicket without giving room to the batters in this wicket, it will fetch you the success. If the batters are stifled, they will try a lot of things, which can be negative for them and positive for a bowler," he remarked.
"So I feel the bowler should not try too many things rather than just try to maintain the line and length," he said.
Rana believes Bangladesh are now in advantageous position to win the Test. According to him, if they can set a target of around 250, they will be in favourable position to win the final Test and draw the series.
"I believed a target around 250 would be good. If we can score over 250 it will be difficult to bat for the batsman on day four because there will be an uneven bounce in the wicket," he said, adding that the spinners will also come to action in the fourth innings as the pitch will deteriorate as the time progresses.
"There will be turn for the spinners in the fourth innings and we can get something good," he said.
