Bangladesh finish 5th in Jr. Asia Cup

DHAKA, Dec 4, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh U-21 youth hockey team secured 5th place in the Men's Hockey Junior Asia Cup after beating China by 6-3 goals in the place-deciding match held in Muscat, Oman on Wednesday.

In the match, Amirul Islam slammed hat-trick with three goals in the 21st, 26th and 30+th minutes while Hasan also scored hat-trick with three goals in the 1st, 52nd and 60th minutes for Bangladesh.

Zhang Jialiang scored two goals in the 19th and 42nd minutes while Chen Zhenxin netted the other goal in the 11th minute for China.

The Bangladesh hockey team is expected to return home tomorrow (Thursday) morning. 

Bangladesh created history as they qualified for the FIH Hockey Junior World Cup for the first time after thrashing Thailand by 7-2 goals.
 
Earlier, Bangladesh made a winning start in the tournament beating Oman by 3-1 goals but suffered a massive 0-9 goal defeat to Pakistan in their second match.

The boys in red and green, came from behind, forced Malaysia to play a 2-2 goal draw in their third match and also played a 1-1 draw with China in their last group match.
