Dressed as tea workers Joty, Lewis unveil T20 series trophy

DHAKA, Dec 4, 2024 (BSS)-Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty and her Irish counterpart Gaby Lewis unveiled the T20 International series trophy in a different look today.

They appeared in tea workers dress to give the fans and supporters an exceptional taste while unveiling trophy in the middle of a tea garden in Sylhet.

The three-match series opening game will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, which is famous for its scenic view.

Nestled in the tea garden, the stadium offers a panoramic view that is a treat to watch for the spectators.

Tea gardens have been a thousand-year-old tradition of Bangladesh and keeping that in mind, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged the trophy unveiling ceremony here.

However, unveiling the trophy with this concept is not entirely new. Earlier, Bangladesh men's team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was also seen unveiling the trophy in this manner.

What was different this time was the attire of the two captains. Both Gaby Lewis and Nigar Sultana Joty dressed up as typical tea workers.

The trophy unveiled on the official Facebook page of the BCB shows both of them wearing towels on their heads. They had baskets for collecting tea leaves on their backs like a proper tea workers. The two captains were holding the trophy high somewhere in the middle of the tea garden.

The second and final T20I against the Irish will be held on December 7 and 9 at the same venue. Earlier, Bangladesh swept the three-match ODI series to keep them in favourable position for a direct entry to the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup to be held in India next year.
