DHAKA, Dec 5, 2024 (BSS)-The International Cricket Council today announced
the nominees of the ICC Men's and Women's player of the month with Sharmin
Akter Supta finding a place as the lone Bangladeshi player.
She got South Africa's Nadine de Klerk and England's Dann Wyatt-Hodge as her
opponents to be the best of the month of November.
Supta led from the front in Bangladesh's three-match series sweep against
Ireland, scoring 96 and 43 in the first two matches that were held in
November. In third ODI also she scored a fifty but that was held on December
1.
Nadine de Klerk topped the run-scoring and wicket-taking charts for South
Africa in their T20I series against England to earn her place among the
nominees.
England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge was on the shortlist after her sparkling
performance helped England claim the series 3-0.
Nahida Akter remained the only Bangladeshi Women's player to win the best of
month award since its inception.
"The Bangladesh batter (Sharmin Akhter Supta) celebrates her first nomination
for ICC Women's Player of the Month and a win would see her emulate
compatriot Nahida Akter as the only other Bangladeshi to win the award since
its inception," An ICC press release stated.
"The 28-year-old enjoyed a splendid start to the ODI series against Ireland,
with two excellent performances during the calendar month. Sharmin hit a
career-high 96 in a dominant Player of the Match display in the first
encounter in which the home side recorded a convincing 154-run win. She
continued where she left off in the second match, striking 43 to set up a
five-wicket victory in Mirpur."
No Bangladeshi male player, however, was short-listed for the month's award.
India's Jasprit Bumrah, South Africa's Marco Jansen and Pakistan's Haris Rouf
will compete for being the best of November.
Bumrah is nominated thanks to a supreme bowling display in India's convincing
opening Test victory over Australia in Perth, during which he regained top
spot in the ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings. South Africa's Marco Jansen
produced fireworks in the T20I series over India before dazzling with the
ball in the Proteas' Test win against Sri Lanka. Haris Rauf of Pakistan
inspired the visitors' first ODI series win in Australia since 2002.
