DHAKA, Dec 11, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh women’s hockey team finished their Group A campaign of the ongoing Women's Hockey Junior Asia Cup with a losing note as they suffered a 6–1 goal defeat to Malaysia in their fourth and last group match held in Muscat, Oman on Wednesday.
With this defeat, Bangladesh stand bottom of the table of group A losing all their group matches.
In the day’s match, Zati Al Yani of Malaysia scored hat-trick with three goals, played a major role behind the victory of Malaysia.
In the proceeding, Malaysia took the lead early as Zati scored the first goal in the 8th minute in the first quarter and she doubled the lead in the 30th minute, both converting a penalty corners.
Zati completed her hat-trick with a field goal in the 41st minute. Nur Iman further widened the margin for Malaysia scoring the fourth goal in the 44th minute and Nur Shamine made the score line 5-0 in the next minute, both from field goal.
Captain Orpita Paul pulled one back for Bangladesh converting a penalty stroke in the 49th minute of the final quarter while Noor Asyiqin sealed victory for Malaysia scoring the sixth goal in the 53rd minute of the match.
Five highest-ranked teams will qualify for the 2025 Women's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup, which will be held next year in Chile.
Earlier, Bangladesh started their Women's Hockey Junior Asia Cup campaign with a losing note as they suffered a massive 19-0 goals defeat to strong China in their opening group A match and conceded 13-1 goals defeat in their second group match.
The girls in red and green lost 2-1 goal to Thailand in their third group A match.
