DHAKA, Dec 12, 2024 (BSS) - West Indies Captain Shai Hope won the toss for the second consecutive time and like the previous match asked Bangladesh to bat first in the third and final ODI at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts today.
Bangladesh had already lost the series after tasting defeats in the first two matches. This was Bangladesh’s first ODI series defeat to West Indies since 2014.
However, they are playing for a consolation victory and moreover a victory would help them avoid an ignominious whitewash. Last time when Bangladesh lost a series to West Indies in 2014, they lost all three matches of the series.
To avoid that fate, Bangladesh made three changes to the side from the squad of the second game. Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud and Nasum Ahmed were back to the side by replacing Tanzim Hasan, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana.
“We played on the same wicket last two games and we will look forward to getting runs,” Bangladesh stand-in captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz said.
“It was a tough time for me as a captain, but a lot of learnings and the boys are supporting me all the time.”
West Indies brought three changes in a bid to sweep the series with Alzarri Joseph back to the side after missing previous game. Moreover, West Indies handed two players—Amir Jangoo and Jediah Blades an ODI debut.
“We got a few forced changes. Alzarri Joseph is back and we got two debutants today. Always looking to improve and as a bowling group, glad to see the guys contributing,” West Indies captain Shai Hope said.
