SATKHIRA, Dec 12, 2024 (BSS) - Rural games and sports festival competitions for children with special-needs were held in Satkhira district stadium today.
Additional district magistrate Ripon Biswas formally inaugurated the competition as the chief guest, organized by the Satkhira District Sports Office under the annual sports programme of the Department of Sports under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
District information officer Md. Zaharul Islam Tutul was present as the special guest at the opening ceremony while district sports officer Mahbubur Rahman chaired it.
Speaking as the chief guest, additional district magistrate Ripon Biswas said: “We’ve not been able to bring the children with special-needs to the mainstream even today … everyone should work to advance the backward sections of the society.”
This event is an exceptional initiative by the Ministry of Youth and Sports for children with special-needs, he said, adding that there is no alternative to sports in developing children's intelligence.
At that time, district administration officials, district sports office officials, and teachers and students of Sampriti Speech and Hearing Impaired Welfare School were also present on the occasion.
After the competition the guests distributed prizes among the winners.
