Bangladesh's ninth position in Hockey Junior Asia Cup

DHAKA, Dec 14, 2024 (BSS)-Bangladesh women's hockey team finished ninth place in the Women's Hockey Junior Asia Cup beating Sri Lanka by 8-0 goals in the place-deciding match held in Muscat, Oman on Saturday.

It was the first win for Bangladesh in the tournament after the girls in red and green lost all four previous group matches.

In the proceeding, Airin Riya slammed a brilliant hatt-rick with four goals in the 23rd, 28th 31st and 49th minutes while she was well supported Fatema, Orpita Paul, Nadira Ema and Sonia Khatun who scored a lone goal each in the 8th, 44th, 53rd and 57th minutes respectively.

Bangladesh earlier started their Women's Hockey Junior Asia Cup campaign with a losing note as they suffered a massive 19-0 goals defeat to strong China in their opening group A match and conceded 13-1 goals defeat to India in their second group match.

The girls in red and green lost 2-1 goal to Thailand in their third group A match and went down 6-1 defeat to Malaysia in their last group match.
