DHAKA, Dec 20, 2024 (BSS)- Abahani Limited Dhaka shrugged off their previous match defeat as they bounced back to register a solitary goal victory over holders Bashundhara Kings in the Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League football at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Friday.
In the day's match, striker Sumon Reza scored all-important goal for Abahani Limited early in the 3rd minute and they maintained the lead till the final whistle.
Kings, who suffered their second defeat in the league with the day's outcome, however tried their best to stage a fight back in the match but they failed to score any in the remaining proceeding and eventually they had to leave the field with empty hand.
With the day's victory, the sky blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani Limited improved their tally with nine points from four matches while Bashundhara Kings remained at their previous collection of six points playing the same number of matches.
Bashundhara Kings and Abahani will play their next matches against Brothers Union and Bangladesh Police Football Club on December 27 and 28 respectively.
Bashundhara Kings earlier thrashed Chittagong Abahani Limited by 7-0 goals in their league opening match but they lost to Mohammedan Sporting Club in their second match.
The league champions however bounced back to register a 4-1 victory over Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society in their third match of the league.
On the other hand, the sixth times league champions Abahani Limited blanked Fakirerpool Young Men's Club by 2-0, defeated Dhaka Wanderers Club 1-0, but they lost to their arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club by 1-0 goal.
On Saturday Brothers Union will take on old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj, Fortis Football Club meet Dhaka Wanderers Club at Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital and Chittagong Abahani Limited play against Fakirerpool Young Men's Club at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.
All the matches kick off at 2.30 pm.
