DHAKA, Dec 21, 2024 (BSS)-As Bangladesh Women cricketers started their first
class cricket journey, left-arm spinner Nahid Akter marked it in style with
seven-wicket haul at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi today.
Nahid conceded just 48 runs after bowling 27 overs for her seven-wicket haul
as her side Central Zone put North Zone in trouble. But Farzana Hoque Pinky
played a superb 86-run knock for North Zone to help them declare the first
innings at 240-9. Ritu Moni played a second fiddle to her with 57.
Central Zone then ended the day at 29 for no loss with Farzana Akter Lisa and
Murshida Khatun batting on 15 and 10 runs respectively.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board introduced the first class cricket for Women
cricketers for the first time with three-day Bangladesh Cricket League (BCB)
competition. With the available cricketers, they formed four teams-naming
East Zone, South Zone, North Zone and Central Zone, much like the male first
class cricket competition.
The goal to introduce the first class cricket completion is to achieve the
Women's Test status.
In the day's other match at another stadium of Rajshahi, South Zone put them
in commanding position over East Zone.
Put into bat first, East Zone were bowled out for 193 before South Zone
reached 164-1 a stumps with Ayesha Rahman batting on 82, raising the prospect
of becoming the first Bangladeshi female cricketer to hit century in first
class cricket.
Earlier, chance came for East Zone's Sharmin Akter Supta to hit the milestone
but she was out for 88.
