DHAKA, Dec 21, 2024 (BSS)-Bangladesh batting coach Mohammad Salahuddin
showered Liton Das with enormous praise for his incredible captaincy that led
the Tigers to a 3-0 series sweep over West Indies for the first time on
Caribbean Island.
It is believed Liton's captaincy was instrumental in winning the series
despite low totals on the board in a format, which was West Indies' strongest
zone and Bangladesh's weakest link.
But Liton suffered a slump of form that saw him managing 0, 4, and 14 in the
three T20Is. Earlier in three-match ODIs, where Bangladesh were whitewashed,
Liton's return was 2, 4 and 8.
"He led the side incredibly. He was positive and knew what to do in crunch
moment," Salahuddin told the reporters before leaving for Bangladesh from
West Indies.
Salahuddin was the first one to unearth that Liton is a captaincy material.
During his stint with Comilla Victorians as coach in BPL, he made Liton
captain, a decision met with huge criticism.
"His captaincy is truly remarkable. I think I was the first to give him the
captaincy last year at Comilla Victorians, and I faced a lot of criticism for
it. But I make decisions after careful thought. His mindset and understanding
of the game made me feel he was captain material," he informed.
As for his sensational slump with the willow, Salahuddin said, Liton has no
technical issues and will come out of the lean phase soon if he stays
mentally relaxed.
"Any batsman can go through a bad patch. There's no technical issue with
Liton. I think he'll come out of this phase very soon. He's one of
Bangladesh's finest batsmen. I don't think there's much to worry about, "he
opined.
Salahuddin also expected Jaker Ali Anik to go a long way due to his maturity.
Jaker Ali scored consistently in West Indies in all three formats, making him
the most valuable player.
"Speaking of Jaker, I've known him for a long time. He's very sensible and
has developed in that way. He's accustomed to playing in various leagues and
knows how to adapt to any role," said Salahuddin.
"He (Jaker) knows what to do and when to do it. I hope this maturity will
develop in others as well."
