DHAKA, Dec 23, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh Navy thrashed Bangladesh Krira Shikkha
Prothistan (BKSP) 8-2 in the inaugural match of the Paragon Group Victory Day
Hockey held at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Monday.
Thanks to Bangladesh Navy's penalty corner ace Ashraful Islam for his five
goals that helped the team to notch a commanding victory in the one-sided
affairs.
His five goals were scored in the first, 10th, 26th, 27th and 41st minutes.
The other three goals came off the sticks of skipper Russell Mahmud Jimmy in
the seventh minute, Fazle Hossain Rabby 35th minute and Mahbub Hossain in the
49th minute.
It was basically a match between experience and learners as Bangladesh Navy
comprised of nine national players consequentially leading the way against
the students. However, BKSP demonstrated their talent scoring two goals
within seven minutes in the middle of the second quarter with Tanvir Rahman
Siam scored in the 17th and Hujaifa Hussain converted a penalty in the 24th
to bring the score line to 3-2.
However, they failed to maintain the tempo in the later minutes. The score
line remained the same at the end of the second quarter.
Earlier, Youth and Sports Secretary Rezaul Maksud Jahedi formally inaugurated
the meet as the chief guest.
Lt. Col (rtd.) Reazul Hasan, the general secretary of Bangladesh Hockey
Federation, National Sports Council Secretary Aminul Islam and other
federation official were present, among others, in the opening ceremony.
