Khaled Mahmud ready to work with national team

DHAKA, Dec 26, 2024 (BSS)-Khaled Mahmud Sujon reiterated his desire to be the
part of the country's national team's coaching set up after stepping down
from the director post of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

"I myself told the BCB president that since I am a coach I am ready to work
with the national team," Mahmud told the reporters here today.

"If they think I am capable, and if they give me the responsibility, I am
ready. I don't know what the situation is now because the country is going
through changes. But yes, since my profession is coaching, if there is such
an opportunity, I am definitely interested in working for Bangladesh
cricket."

Khaled Mahmud Sujon used to coach regularly while he was the board director.
He was also the interim head coach of Bangladesh at times. He worked in
different roles in the national team at different times. Although there was
lot of criticism about his role in national team despite being a director and
there was conflict of interest, he continued to work by paying no heed to the
critics.

Khaled Mahmud Sujon has left the board director's role after the political
change on August 5. Now he is the head coach of Dhaka Capitals in this year's
BPL.

There was also criticism over not giving opportunities to local coaches in
the national team. However, the BCB has recently taken the initiative in this
regard as well by appointing Mohammad Salauddin has been as the senior
assistant coach of the national team. S

Mahmud said that he does not see much difference between local and foreign
coaches.

"The language of coaching is the same everywhere. They speak in a foreign
language, we speak in a local language. This is the only difference," Mahmud
said.

"Is the square cut (a cricket shot) different for Sachin Tendulkar or WG
Grace? The cricketing technique is same. So it is not a problem. Our problem
is, which I have been saying for a long time. When I worked at BCB, I told
the then president, you should actually reduce the gap in terms of local and
foreign coaches."

"I said the idea that a foreign coach is always good for our cricket should
be dropped. Today there are many coaches in Bangladesh, including Salahuddin,
who are experienced. I believe that it started with Salahuddin and this is a
good thing."

He also heaped praise on Salahuddin for his good work with the players during
the West Indies tour.

"Salahuddin was able to make an impression in the West Indies tour. I think
that if we can work for a long time, we will be able to have more influence
and we will be able to see more Bangladeshi coaches working with the national
team. We have many coaches. BCB can think about them too. I do not believe
that we need to bring a fielding coach or batting coach or bowling coach from
outside."
