Sabbir still harbours hope to play in national team

DHAKA, Dec 26, 2024 (BSS)-Middle order batter Sabbir Rahman said he didn't
give up the hopes to play in national team despite being 33 at this moment.

Sabbir Rahman, once considered as the country's future prospect played for
the country in all three formats but a poor form led to his axe.

Once termed as country's first and only proper T20 batter, did not get a
chance in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) last year. However, this time
he was roped in by Dhaka Capitals from the draft.

"I am definitely preparing (for the national team). I still have my age on
the side. I am trying to make a comeback. That's the reasons I am coming to
the field and practicing," Sabbir told the reporters.

"I got a chance in the BPL, I had played domestic T20 cricket around the
world. So I will try to make a strong comeback by playing well in this BPL."

Sabbir has played 11 Tests, 66 ODIs and 48 T20Is for the national team. The
T20I match against Pakistan in 2022 is his last for Bangladesh so far.

"The thing is where do you want to practice to keep you fit for cricket
always. If you want to do it in Mirpur, then it is impossible because there
are national team cricketers who practice here regularly. If this facility is
spread to all places, those who are outside the 30 cricketers or outside the
pipeline, they will be able to use it there. They will be able to use
machines or slabs for their practice," he said when his attention was drawn
that how tough it is to keep practicing when he was far from the national
team.

"I bought slabs at my own expense, used machines. Those who are emerging
cricketers may not have that ability. I feel that this plan should be made
for all so that they can make a comeback by utilizing these facilities. I
cannot come to Mirpur because Mirpur's facility is booked always."

A few days ago, Sabbir played in the Sri Lanka T-10 League. He also performed
well in a couple of matches there. He is looking forward to the BPL, hoping
that this time he won't be under so much pressure.

"I have proven myself many times before. It is important for me to prove
myself again. I have played a big tournament in Sri Lanka. I hope I won't be
nervous. If I can play a couple of good knocks, my confidence will increase.
I will try to play according to the responsibility the team will give me."
