Players also have responsibility to make BPL successful: Tamim

DHAKA, Dec 29, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh's senior cricketer Tamim Iqbal said that to make the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) a success, the cricketers also have to take a responsibility.

The last couple of seasons of BPL were marred by low scores, which made the fans annoyed. While the pitch was blamed for the series of low scoring game, the local players' performance was also not up to the mark as far as the big hitting prowess is concerned.

Since the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken several steps to revamp the BPL, Tamim said, it's necessary for the players to step in to make it success.

"How the tournament will be depends on how the players perform. It's not up to the organizers. What they can do to provide the best facilities, provide the best wickets, ensuring best commentators, cameras and technologies. That is the job of those in charge," Tamim said here today.

"But they will never be able to decide on the match. Whether it will be a 200-run game or 60-run game, that will be the responsibility of the team and the players. Anything beyond that, these are organizers responsibility. If they do their job well, if we do ours well, then it will be a successful tournament."

Tamim however laid emphasize on investing more on cricket, saying, "The key to change the BPL is to invest more on cricket and the tournaments."
Tamim who has been absent from the national team since the last led Fortune Bairhsal to BPL title for the first time last year. This year his side gear up to defend the title.

Fortune Barishal will open the tournament by facing off Dubar Rajshahi in the first match of the tournament tomorrow (Monday) at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
