DHAKA, Dec 31, 2024 (BSS)- The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) today saw a
'Timed Out' drama during the match between Khulna Tigers and Chittagong Kings
at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
 
When Chittagong Kings batter Haider Ali was out during the seventh over of
the innings, the next batter Tom O'Connell took more than 90 seconds to reach
the crease.

The England player in fact came to the crease after about three minutes.
As his teammates insisted, Khulna Tigers captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz requested
for a timed out. The two on-field umpires, Tanvir Ahmed and Raveendra
Wimalasiri, discussed among themselves and gave batter O'Connell out as per
the rules.

When the batter was going back after the umpire's decision, Miraz called him
back. The umpire also allowed him to play after the opposition captain backed
out from his previous decision.

But the left-handed batter got out in the first delivery he faced as he top-
edged it mid-wicket where Miraz himself completed the catch.

Khulna which posted a massive 203-4, eventually won match by 37 runs after
wrapping up Chittagong Kings for 166 in 18.5 overs.
 
The world saw the first 'Timed Out' in cricket history thanks to Bangladesh.
In the 2023 World Cup in Delhi, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan inflicted
'Timed Out' on Sri Lankan batter Angelo Mathews after he was later to come to
the crease. Shakib had taken the decision after consulting with his
teammates.

The umpire also responded to Bangladesh's decision to inflict 'Timed Out' as
it was within the rules.

The Bangladesh's decision to inflict 'Timed Out' on Mathews created a massive
uproar in world cricket fraternity.

According to the rules, the new batter should come to crease within 2 minutes
in ODI and Test format after the previous batter is dismissed. In T20 format,
the new batter should come within 90 seconds.
