Sixth round of BPL football begins tomorrow

DHAKA, Jan 2, 2025 (BSS) - The sixth round of Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League football begins tomorrow (Friday) at  three separate venues across the country.

On the day, six times league champions Abahani Limited Dhaka takes on Fortis Football Club at Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital, Brothers Union Club faces Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club at Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj and holders Bashundhara Kings meets Bangladesh Police Football Club at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.

After the fifth round, Abahani Limited stands third position in the league table with 12 points from five matches while Fortis Football Club stands seventh position in the table with five points playing the same number of matches.

The Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union Club stands fourth position in the league table with eight points from five matches while Fakirerpool stands ninth position in the table with three points playing the same number of outings.

Bashundhara Kings stand fifth position in the league table with seven points from five matches while Bangladesh Police Football Club stands sixth position in the table with six points also playing five matches.  

Earlier, Abahani Limited Dhaka beat Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club by 2-0 goals in their league opening match, edged past Dhaka Wanderers Club by 1-0 goal in their second match, lost to arch rival Mohammedan by 1-0 goal and defeated holders Bashundhara Kings by 1-0 goal and beat Bangladesh Police Football Club by 2-0 goals.

While Fortis Football Club suffered 3-1 defeat to Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society in their league opening match, played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Brothers Union Club, managed a 3-0 win over Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club, shared point playing out to a 1-1 goal draw with Dhaka Wanderers Club and lost to Mohammedan by 1-0 goal.

Earlier, Brothers Union Club beat Bangladesh Police Football Club 2-1, played 1-1 draw with Fortis Football Club, blanked Chittagong Abahani Limited 2-0, lost to Rahmatganj by 3-1 goals played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Kings.

While Fakirerpool went down 2-0 defeat to Abahani Limited Dhaka, suffered 4-1 defeat to Bangladesh Police FC, lost 3-0 to Fortis Football Club, beat Chittagong Abahani Limited by 2-0 goals and suffered a 6-1 defeat to Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society.

Bashundhara Kings earlier thrashed Chittagong Abahani Limited by 7-0 goals in their league opening match but they lost to Mohammedan Sporting Club by 1-0 goal in their second match.

The league champions however bounced back to register a 4-1 victory over Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society in their third match of the league, lost to a 1-0 goal defeat to Abahani Limited Dhaka and played out to a 1-1 goal draw  with  Brothers Union Club.

Bangladesh Police Football Club earlier suffered 2-1 defeat to Brothers Union Club in their league opening match, beat Fakirerpool by 4-1 goals, blanked Dhaka Wanderers by 4-0 goals, went down 1-3 goal defeat to Mohammedan and suffered 2-0 defeat to Abahani Limited.   

In the remaining sixth round matches on Saturday (Jan 4) table topper Mohammedan face Chittagong Abahani Limited at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh and Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society take on Dhaka Wanderers Club at Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.  

Mohammedan beat Dhaka Wanderer Club 6-0 and edged past Bashundhara Kings and Abahani Limited Dhaka by an identical margin of 1-0 goal, defeated Bangladesh Police Football Club by 3-1 goals and beat Fortis Football Club by 1-0 goal.

The port city team Chittagong Abahani earlier suffered 0-7 to Bashundhara Kings, lost their remaining three matches against Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society, Brothers Union Club and Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club by an identical margin of 2-0 goals and suffered 1-0 defeat to Dhaka Wanderers Club.

Rahmatganj earlier made winning start in the league beating Fortis Football Club by 3-1 goals, defeated Chittagong Abahani Limited by 2-0 goals, lost 4-1 defeat to Bashundhara Kings, notched 3-1 win over Brothers Union Club and thrashed Fakirerpool by 6-1 goals.

Dhaka Wanderers Club earlier suffered 6-0 defeat to Mohammedan in their league opening match, conceded 1-0 defeat to Abahani Limited Dhaka and suffered 4-0 defeat to Bangladesh Police Football Club in their third match of the league, played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Fortis Football Club and suffered 1-0 defeat to Dhaka Wanderers Club.
