DHAKA, Feb 3, 2025 (BSS) - Rangpur Riders will get an opportunity to defend their Global Super League (GSL) trophy in July.
The organizers today confirmed that the second edition of the tournament will run from July 8 to 18 this year. All 11 matches of the tournament will take place at the iconic Guyana National Stadium, Providence, as five elite T20 teams from around the world compete for the coveted GSL trophy.
Rangpur Riders won the inaugural event last year by defeating Cricket Victoria in the final.
However, they failed to keep up the spree in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where they got eliminated from the final race after tasting a nine-wicket defeat to Khulna Tigers in the Eliminator game.
Rangpur began BPL with a bang by winning eight straight matches after the GSL victory, but they later lost five matches, including the Eliminator, on the trot.
GSL's first season will be remembered for thrilling cricket as well as confirming Guyana as a premier destination for world-class sporting events, said GSL chairman Sir Clive Lloyd, expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament:
"The first GSL was a resounding success, with all five participating teams praising the exceptional facilities and warm hospitality they experienced in Guyana," Clive said.
"We are excited to build on this momentum in 2025 and are delighted to confirm the tournament dates. The GSL continues to position Guyana as a key destination for international cricket and sports tourism."
