DHAKA, Feb 28, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh national cricket team, adorably called
as Tigers, return home tonight after a disappointing mission in Champions
Trophy.
They will land at 11 PM, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official said.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and co. set a bold target of becoming champions in the
Champions Trophy but had to make an early exit from the tournament, following
defeats in the first two matches.
They suffered a six-wicket defeat to India before losing to New Zealand by
five wickets, which dashed their hopes of reaching the semi final.
In both matches, their batting frailties were exposed, which eventually
undermined the valiant effort of the bowlers.
Later they met Pakistan in a dead-rubber and earned a point after the game
was washed out without a ball being bowled due to relentless rain.
In the last Champions Trophy in 2017 in England, Bangladesh achieved their
best result in an ICC event by reaching in semifinal. But this time, they
failed to emulate that result.
After bowing out of the tournament, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto laid
emphasize on learning from the mistakes.
"The way we held the game for long periods of the match was very inspiring
for us in the two matches," Shanto said, indicating their collapse in the
first match early in the innings against India and middle order collapse in
the second game against New Zealand.
"We hope we can learn from our mistakes. We will make a proper plan and
execute the plan," he remarked.
The players however will have little scope to rest after the tournament as
they would have to gear up for the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), for their
domestic clubs. DPL, the most coveted domestic league of the country, is set
to start on March 3.
