DHAKA, April 6, 2025 (BSS)- Mohammedan Sporting Club romped to a five-wicket victory over Prime Bank Cricket Club defying a stubborn Shamim Patwari in a crucial Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Patwari fought lonely to hammer 61 ball-89, an innings that lifted Prime Bank to 177 before being all out in 32.2 overs. The second best 21 came from No.10 batter Arafat Sunny.
Apart from the duo, only two others could manage to reach double digit mark, further giving a testament of how one-man show it was.
But Mohammedan made the chase a cake-walk by reaching the winning target of 177-5 in just 30 overs with Towhid Hriody who replaced Tamim Iqbal as captain hammering 55 ball-57 with seven fours and two sixes.
Allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was not out on 67 off 55. He also smashed seven fours and two sixes. Hridoy and Miraz put on a 91-run for the fifth wicket after Mohammedan were reduced to a precarious 38-4 in 12.4 overs, that included the wicket of inform Mahidul Islam Ankon and veteran Mahmudullah Riyad.
As it looked, Prime Bank took the stranglehold, Hriody counterattacked in style to tilt the game toward Mohammedan.
Earlier, fast bowler Ebadot Hossain caused mayhem in Prime Bank's innings, taking 3-27. Taijul Islam who bowled only 3.2 overs, cleaned up the tail to finish with four wickets for just five runs.
Shamim Patwari who held together the innings was the ninth batter out when Saifuddin had him caught by Abu Haider Rony at long-on. Patwari smote 10 fours and four sixes in his audacious knock.
