DHAKA, April 10, 2025 (BSS)- Gazi Group Cricketers confirmed the Super Six
phase of Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after their comprehensive 170-run victory
over Partex Sporting Club at BKSP-3 ground today.
They became the third team to reach Super Six, after defending champions
Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Put into bat first, Gazi Group racked up a mammoth 302-7 and defended it
comfortably for a big victory by holding Partex back to 132-9 in 31.5 overs.
Mohor Sheikh, the last batter of Partex, was unable to bat due to injury.
Gazi's Captain Anamul Haque Bijoy led the victory charge with 78 off 90, an
innings laced with nine fours.
After the departure of opener Munim Shahriar for just 4, Bijoy put the side
in commanding position by sharing 104 runs with Sadikur Rahman who made 46.
Tanvir Hossain dismissed Bijoy as the fourth batter and raised the prospect
of controlling the game. But Sabbir Hossen Shikdar made an unbeaten 64 and
Shamim Mea hit 53 to help the side propel past the 300-run mark.
The total proved to be too hot to handle for Partex who also dug their own
graveyards by losing wickets at regular intervals. Amid the wickets tumbling
around him, opener Mohammad Adil remained unfazed to make an unbeaten 53.
Shamim Mea, Wasi Siddiquee and Tofael Ahmed who blasted 20 ball-37 with the
willow, picked up two wickets apiece.
Elsewhere at BKSP-4 ground, Captain Nurul Hasan Sohan hammered a 95 ball-97
as Dhanmondi Sporting Club cruised to a five-wicket win over Rupganj Tigers
Cricket Club.
The outcome of the match would have little impact as both sides had already
squandered the chance to make it to the Super Six phase.
Asked to bat first, Rupganj amassed 280-7, thanks to Nasir Hossain's 77 and
Asadullah Galib's 65. Nasir in fact hit a half-century in his only second
match after making a comeback to competitive cricket following a two-year ban
imposed by the ICC.
But his joy became short-lived as Sohan's eye-catching knock which was
studded by nine fours and two sixes guided the side home with 284-5 in 47.1
overs. Yasir Ali Chowdhury struck 40 ball-55 not out to hasten the victory
after Sohan missed out his ton by five runs.
