DHAKA, April 10, 2025 (BSS)- After the men's Kabaddi test series against
Nepal, the Bangladesh National Women's Kabaddi team will play their maiden
five-match Kabaddi test series against their Nepalese counterpart to be held
in Nepal this month.
The National Women's Kabaddi team will leave here for Nepal on April 19.
Bangladesh will play the first match on April 20 while the remaining matches
of the series will be held on April 21, 22, 24 and 25 in Kathmandu, the
capital of Nepal.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation SM Newaz Sohag said: "Like
Bangladesh, the Nepal Women's Kabaddi team will also play the Test series for
the first time. Nepal is very excited about this series. The hosts are going
through a busy time with the test series campaign. For the first time under
our committee, the Bangladesh women's team is going to play a Test series,
which is a big deal for the Bangladeshi Kabaddi. We hope our girls will do
well in Nepal."
The general secretary informed that the Women's Kabaddi Team would play this
five-match series against Nepal as part of preparations for the upcoming
second Women's Kabaddi World Cup which will be held in Bihar, India from June
1 to 13 this year.
The Bangladesh team started their training camp for the test series
immediately after winning bronze at the Asian Women's Kabaddi Championship in
Iran under the supervision of coaches Shahnaz Parveen Maleka and Arduzzaman
Munshi at Dhanmondi Riya Gope Women's Sports Complex.
Regarding preparations for the World Cup, SM Newaz Sohag said, "Since the
Women's World Cup is in June, we need to play some preparation matches. We'll
play five matches against Nepal which will be very useful for us. I believe
that our girls will gain experience before the World Cup. After the series,
we'll try to send the team to India 15-day or a month before the start of the
World Cup."
Sohag also informed that they have planned to organise a few warm-up matches
against the state team in India.
Besides, efforts are being made to organise a match against Thailand.
Nepal is a stronger team than Bangladesh in Women's Kabaddi. Bangladesh has
no record of winning against Nepal in recent times. Bangladesh lost to Nepal
women's team in SA Games and Asian Games.
Bangladesh team wants to return to winning ways against Nepal with the
upcoming five-match Test series. Earlier, the Bangladesh National Men's Kabaddi team played a five-match test
series against Nepal in February in Dhaka and won the series 4-1.
