DHAKA, April 16, 2025 (BSS)— Bangladesh Women’s team will take on West Indies in the crucial game of ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers tomorrow (Thursday) at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground.
A victory against the Caribbean Women’s team will seal their berth in the World Cup.
The Tigresses kept them in advantageous position, having won three straight matches. In the first match, they crushed Thailand by a record 178 runs before clinching a thrilling two-wicket victory over Ireland. In the third game, they beat Scotland by 34 runs.
While Bangladesh enjoyed a good success, West Indies won just one game in their first three matches.
Bangladesh lost a three-match ODI series on Caribbean Island by 2-1 just before the Qualifiers.
However, Captain Nigar Sultana Joty led from the front as Bangladesh Women’s team registered their third straight victory in the ODI World Cup Qualifiers, having sealed a 34-run victory over Scotland at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore yesterday.
Joty hammered an unbeaten 59 ball-83 to help Bangladesh post 276-6, its highest ever total in the history. She was ably supported by opener Farzana Hoque Pinky and top-order batter Sharmin Akhter Supta who both made 57.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh lost Ishma Tanjim for just 14 but Farzana and Sharmin paved the platform of a big total by sharing 103 runs for the second wicket.
When both of them departed in the space of just 19 runs, Scotland sensed a chance to dominate Bangladesh. But Joty counterattacked in style and single-handedly took Bangladesh past record-breaking total.
Scotland were held back to 242-9 while chasing the stiff target. Priyanaz Chatterji and Rachel Slater made identical 61 and shared a record 115-run partnership for the eighth wicket, which reduced the margin of the defeat.
Nahida Akter took 4-40 for Bangladesh.
