DHAKA, April 23, 2025 (BSS)-Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz became
the third Bangladeshi bowler to reach the milestone of 200 wickets during the
first cricket Test against Zimbabwe at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
He achieved the feat after taking 5-50 in the second innings, following his
5-52 in the first innings. Despite taking a 10-102, his third 10-for in this
format and highest by a Bangladeshi bowler, Miraz couldn't avoid Bangladesh's
three-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe.
Shakib was the first Bangladeshi cricketer to take 200 wickets in Test
cricket by reaching the milestone in 91 innings.
Taijul Islam then followed Shakib to enter in this club. Taijul, a left-arm
spinner like Shakib claimed 200 wickets in red-ball cricket in 85 innings. He
is the fastest among the trio to reach the feat. Miraz, however, took 93
innings for this milestone.
Miraj entered into the game in Sylhet with 190 wickets but little did anyone
expect that he secured the feat in this match. However, his consistency with
his line and length was excellent that gave Zimbabwe batters a torrid time.
But a reckless batting show by the batters eventually dug Bangladesh's
graveyard.
Shakib is still at the top with 246 wickets in 121 innings in 71 Tests.
Taijul Islam has 219 wickets in 93 innings of 52 Tests. Miraz has now 200
wickets under his belt in the same number of matches, playing two innings
less than Taijul.
