DHAKA, April 27, 2025 (BSS)-Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons asked for
fans' patience as his side look to avoid a Test series whitewash against
Zimbabwe by winning the second and final Test, starting tomorrow (Monday) at
Bir Shrestha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.
The home side faced a heavy criticism after a three-wicket defeat to Zimbabwe
in the first cricket Test in Sylhet.
It was Bangladesh's first defeat to Zimbabwe in this format since 2018.
"I ask for patience from the Bangladesh people," Simmon said." I know how
passionate they are for the team to do better. I request for patience. We are
trying to put the right things in place to get us to play better."
Bangladesh's batting meltdown was instrumental in the defeat even though the
bowlers continued to shine and gave the side an outside chance to win the
game.
The Tigers were bowled out for just 191 in the first innings and conceded 82-
run lead when Zimbabwe put on 273 before being all out.
Bangladesh's batting frailties continued in the second innings also, as they
were wrapped up for just 255, setting 174-run for Zimbabwe to win the game.
Albeit a hiccup, the African nation reached the target to seal their first
victory in this format after 2021.
"As coaches, the outside noise is one of the things that we try to keep away
from them," Simmons said, indicating that he tries to keep the players calm
in the wake of the situation.
"We are going into a Test match so in the final meeting this evening, it is
one of the things that we have to make sure. It is about Bangladesh cricket
for the next five days; not anything else that's going on outside."
