RAJSHAHI, June 3, 2022 (BSS) - Bangabandhu Gold Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament
began amid a colorful ceremony here for the second time today.
Rajshahi Divisional Cricketers Association is hosting the tournament
supported by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) at Rajshahi College playground
aimed at generating new more national standard cricketers.
RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton as the chief guest rolled out the tournament
through releasing balloons before a large number of cricketers and other
cricket-loving people this afternoon.
Former Captain of National Cricket Team Khaled Masud Pilot, FBCCI Director
Shamsuzzaman Awal and Rajshahi College Principal Professor Abdul Khaleque,
among others, were present at the opening ceremony.
According to the sources concerned, a total of six teams will take part in
the tournament and the matches will be held at Freedom Fighters Memorial
Stadium in a single league method. The teams are: Shaheed Shamsul Alam Smrity
Sangsad, Mukti Sangha, Raima Rangers, Nationtech Cricketers and Fighter
Rajshahi.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said more talented cricket players are
expected to come out from the tournament and they will play in national
teams.
He added that the present government under the dynamic and visionary
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing diversified
programmes to elevate the country's sports sector.
