Art competition held marking Sheikh Russel Day 

DHAKA, Sept 30, 2022 (BSS) - A discussion meeting and art competition was held today (Friday) at Shaheed Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Complex in the city marking Sheikh Russel’s birthday and Sheikh Russel Day on October 18. 

Bangladesh Awami League’s presidium member Matia Chowdhury formally inaugurated the art competition as the chief guest.

The discussion meeting and art competition was organized by Russel Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad’s and government’s ICT ministry marking Sheikh Russel’s birthday and Sheikh Russel Day on October 18.   

A total of one thousand juvenile boys and girls participants took part in the print making and graphics design of ka, kha and ga category of the competition, presided by Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad’s central secretary general KM Shahidullah.

Awards will be given to four competitors in the special need category while top five competitors of the other three categories will also be awarded.

Dhaka University Honorary Professor Syed Abul Barak Alvi and associate professor Razir Hossain Khan performed the duties of judges in the art competition.

Winners’ of the competition will be awarded with a certificate, medal and a laptop each. Prizes will be handed over to the winners’ on October 18 in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh Awami League’s law affairs secretary advocate Kazi Nazibullah Heru, information and technology division’s senior secretary NM Ziaul Alam, Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad’s organizing secretary Farid Uddin Ahamod Roton,  Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad’s organizing secretary Moniruzzaman Polash, Dhaka Metropolis general secretary Sadik Ibne Rouf, Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad’s organizing barrister Jahangir Hossain Rony and Russel Jatiyo Shishu Kishore Parishad’s office secretary Sajal Mahmud also spoke on the occasion.   

Sheikh Russel, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on October 18 in 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi.

Sheikh Russel was brutally killed on August 15 in 1975 along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, when he was a student of class four at University Laboratory School.
