DHAKA, Oct 6, 2022 (BSS) - Bangladesh are keen to follow the process instead of instant result as they take on Pakistan in their opening game of the tri-nation series at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, New Zealand tomorrow (Friday).

The match starts at 8am (Bangladesh Time).

According to vice-captain Nurul Hasan Sohan, the process instead of result is imperative to shape up the team ahead of the T20 World Cup.

"I think we should not worry about the result, rather we should follow the process," Sohan said ahead of the opening game.

"If we work honestly and play as a team and put the team first, it will be beneficial for us. We need to play without focusing on individual performances and we should play our roles according to the situation. All eleven players will not perform on the same day. We are focusing on these aspects."

Regular captain Shakib Al Hasan is set to join the side today (Thursday), just 24 hours less than the first game of the tournament. Shakib's arrival got delayed by two days because of technicalities related to transit visa.

The talismanic allrounder missed Bangladesh recent T20 series against United Arab Emirates due to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Bangladesh won that series by 2-0, a result that created a winning culture, according to the team management.

Since Bangladesh have been in losing streak in this format, the team management thought the 2-0 result will boost their confidence in the tri-nation series, which is seen as the preparation platform for the upcoming T20 World.

Bangladesh so far played 15 matches against Pakistan, winning just two and losing 13 matches. Pakistan, the runners-up of the Asia Cup, whitewashed the Tigers 3-0 in T20Is in Mirpur last year, and going by the current state of the two teams, they remain clear favourite.

But Sohan said they want to take positives from this series heading to the T20 World Cup.

"We will be playing a few matches in these conditions before going to Australia and that too against teams like New Zealand and Pakistan, which is really good for us. Because this will certainly be a boost in the World Cup," Sohan said.

"If we can take positives from this series in the World Cup, we can expect something good."

Overall Bangladesh played 135 T20 Internationals and while they won 47 matches, they had lost 85 matches. Three other matches ended in no result.

Pakistan though remain far ahead of Bangladesh in this format, their recent form also have been wayward despite being boasted by the inform batters like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. After losing the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka, they lost a seven-match T20 series by 4-3 at home. They also are keen to get into winning mode ahead of the World Cup.
