RAJSHAHI, Nov 19, 2022 (BSS) - Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys Under-17) and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Girls Under-17)-2022 ended here Friday evening.
The Divisional Administration and the District Sports Office jointly hosted the three-day tournament at Liberation War Memorial Stadium.
A total of 18 teams, nine each for the boys and girls respectively, took part in the two tournaments.
Chapainawabganj and Pabna districts clinched the championship and runner-up trophies of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys Under-17) respectively.
Sirajganj and Naogaon districts bagged championship and runner-up trophies of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Girls Under-17) respectively.
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation and Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League AHM Khairuzzaman Liton distributed trophies among the champion and runner-up teams as chief guest before a large number of football players, fans and others concerned.
With Additional Commissioner Dr Ziaul Haque in the chair, the ceremony was attended, among others, by Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Abu Kalam Siddique, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil and District Sports Officer Jahangir Hossain.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said more talented football players are expected to come out from the tournament and they will play in national teams.
He added that the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing diversified programmes to elevate the country's sports sector.
