Afnan's mother still endures mental agony losing her son

LAKSHMIPUR, Oct 11, 2024 (BSS) –Saad Al Afnan, an HSC candidate in Lakshmipur Victoria College, was killed  during the student-led mass uprising in Jhumur Chattar area of the district town on August 4.
 
Saad Al Afnan, joined the anti-discrimination student movement in the district town on the day.

Suddenly the Jubo League attacked and fired on the protesters. Afnan was shot while he was trying to save one of his classmates. Later he fell on the Madam Bridge of the town.

Afnan could not stand up after that. Afnan was shot to death by Awami Jubo League cadres in front of everyone's eyes.
 
His classmates and students who participated in the movement at that time were speechless at the death of Afnan. His mother's crying does not stop yet.
 
Nasima Akhter, mother of martyr Afnan, said "I lost my only son, I can’t bear the grief anymore. He was my only lifeline. Now I have no one left. How can I survive? My husband also died three months ago abroad."
 
Eyewitnesses and students said on August 4, around 11 am the entire Lakshmipur was abuzz with the programme of the anti-discrimination student movement like the rest of the country.

The whole city was bustling with processions. Suddenly the leaders and activists of Awami League and Jubo League who were going towards Jhumur Chattar with a procession from North Temuhani, attacked the students. The students tried to resist. At one stage Awami League goons led by AKM Salauddin Tipu, former president of the district Jubo League and the ousted chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad, fired on the protesters. Afnan was shot on the bridge and he died on the way to the hospital.
 
Besides, in the Tamiz Market area of the town, Salahuddin Tipu and his associates fired indiscriminately at the students from the roof of their residence. HSC examinees Kaushar Uddin Bijay, Tauhid Kabir Rafi and Sabbir Hossain were shot dead by the firing. At least 500 students were injured, including more than 300 bullet wounds, on the day.
 
Three separate murder cases were filed in these connections. The firing video of Tipu and district Chhatra League organizing secretary Shaheen Alam at the students went viral on social media.
 
MArtyr Afnan is the son of Saleh Ahmed and Nasima Akhtar of Bus Terminal area of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila. He was an HSC examinee from Lakshmipur Victoria College.
 
Afnan's mother Nasima Akhtar filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station, naming 75 people, including Laxmipur Sadar Upazila Parishad chairman and former president of the district Jubo League AKM Salah Uddin Tipu, and 700 others as unknown accused.
 
After that, the defendants are threatening the plaintiff. Afnan's widow mother Nasima is running away with fear of this. Relatives of Afnan also demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits.
 
Meanwhile, former lawmaker of Lakshmipur-3 constituency and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said four students were killed by firing under the leadership of terrorist AKM Salauddin Tipu during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Three hundred students were shot. This cannot be happened in any civilized country. The killers must be prosecuted. They will not be exempted in any way.
 
District Jamaat Secretary Farooq Hossain Noornabi said that the terrorists fired indiscriminately on the students under the leadership of Jubo League leader Salahuddin Tipu during the anti-discrimination student movement.
 
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Yashin Farooq Majumder said police arrested some accused of the case  and drive is underway for arresting others.
