JAMALPUR, Nov 24, 2024 (BSS) – Police’s bullets snatched away the life of Md Sabuj Miah, 18, who was the only earning member of his poor parents.
After losing Sabuj, who was shot dead by police on August 5, his family is passing days in hardship as his sick father is unable to do any work.
Md Sabuj Miah, younger son among two siblings of Mohammad Ali and Jarina Begum, used to live with his parents at Ashulia, the outskirts of the capital.
He used to drive auto autorickshaw and a construction-material-carrying tractor to help his sick father and mother.
When he was witnessing the long march of anti-discrimination student movement towards Dhaka at Ashulia on August 5, police’s bullets hit him around 5:30pm.
He was rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital located at Savar, where he succumbed to his severe injuries.
On the following day, he was buried at a family graveyard in his native village, Kona Malancha, in Melandah upazila under Jamalpur district.
Mohammad Ali, father of the martyr, said, “I used to work at a textile mill situated in the Konabari area under Gazipur district. But I could not continue my job due to sickness.”
He said, “After the death of Sabuj, we returned home in Melandah. I am sick and I cannot work hard.. . I am now running a tea stall near Adra union Parishad in Melandah for survival.”
He said, “My elder son Sajib works at a textile mill in Konabari to help us, which is not enough as I have to spend Tk 1,500 for my medicine.”
He said that it would be helpful for them if the government provides them with financial assistance.
He said, “Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh gave us Tk two lakh and upazila administration Tk 20,000.”
Mentioning that his wife Jarina Begum is still in morose after losing their younger son, he said, “We have to pass our entire life with the pain of losing son.”
He demanded punishment for the killers’ of his son.
